Intro
Link canopies are an incredibly versatile product which are often designed specifically for the area they will inhabit.
Based on an initial choice of canopy design (View our range of Link Canopy Designs) a conversation is opened with the buyer to determine the canopies preferred dimensions & the general purpose of the walkway.
Often times a customer will have very little idea of what they’re going to need from us, they just know they need to stay dry between the main entrance and the carpark.
This is where our in-house site survey team can bridge the gap by bringing the customers preferences together with any limitations imposed by the site to create a comprehensive cost & feature analysis.
Link to Nursery
An unorthodox but appealing use for a link canopy can be found at the Leicester NEXT Head Office, where a single 170m long canopy connects the company’s office block to the on-site nursery.
Employees at the head office have been able to leave their children in a safe environment nearby to their workplace since 2014, when the nursery was built.
By connecting the two buildings with a link canopy in 2024, NEXT have given their employees the rare opportunity to quickly and easily check on their children should any issues arise in the middle of the workday, without the displeasure of getting soaking wet.
Link to Department
A more common use for link canopies at the workplace is as a semi-permanent link between two on-site departments.
Usually these locations will have some way of remaining indoors whilst travelling from one to the other, but often times this will be a short odyssey through a seemingly endless supply of beige hallways and code-locked doors.
Peterborough City Hospital saw the time being wasted through their poor logistical arrangement and sought to update this. By purchasing an 84m Canopy for the exterior of the building, and an additional 14m canopy for the internal courtyard, the team were able to shorten travel times across the hospital leading to more patients being seen & more cases being dealt with.
That’s not to mention any small-scale benefits any individuals might’ve received, from a breath of fresh air to get you through a difficult afternoon, to a few guilt free minutes in the sun on an otherwise slow but office-cooped day, it can be difficult to quantify these small changes in peoples every-day lives but its impossible to deny that they do exist.
Link to Air Terminal
Bournemouth City Airport had a problem. Ever since the first passenger flights in 1993, people just kept coming! Whether for a long stay to the Andean Mountain Range for an in-person history lesson, or a short stay on the south side of Majorca for a care-free sunbathing session, the service at Bournemouth has been so great for so long that the initial site plans soon proved to be inadequate for the number of visitors.
Following a number of runway and terminal extensions from the 1990’s until the early 2010’s, the airport simply couldn’t keep up with the increased demand.
Following on from this tremendous expansion in the number of passengers Bournemouth City Airport sought further expansion in the early 2010's, but budgets were approaching their limit and they needed a bespoke solution to to link two of their terminals from the runway.
This link canopy would allow the airport and any resident airlines greater flexibility during landing and take-off by transferring passengers expected to leave from one terminal to the terminal where their aircraft has landed or is being processed.
After seeing the stats, its easy to see the effect this unassuming covered walkway has had on the airports operations;
